Giving Thanks... And The Games Of Indian Summer

"It seems like once people grow up, they have no idea what's cool." - Bill Watterson

It wasn't too long ago that temperatures plunged below freezing; we even had a little snow. I've never been one to store away my golfclubs too quickly, though. This week we're enjoying a glorious indian summer and I've been playing every day.

I tend to have difficulty in the spring when Daylight Savings Time kicks in. Losing that hour of sleep requires some adjustment. At least a week to get rolling on the new time. Things invariably go smoother in the fall; rolling the clock back doesn't affect me at all.

As the days continue to grow shorter, though, things do change. I tend to spend more time lingering in bed with TheSpecialOne. There are evenings listening to music in front of the fireplace. Aside from debauchery with TheSpecialOne, one of my favorite things this time of the year is the quiet calm of the morning. I sit in my office with just the soft glow of a desklamp. Other than a porchlight here and there, it's dark outside and so very quiet. There's rarely a car that passes. I never pay a bit of attenton to time during the quiet calm of the morning, it's an opportunity for contemplation.

Things worked out that I spent Thanksgiving with TheSpecialOne's family. There were about 20 people for dinner. It was such a beautiful day, 10 of us went out and played nine holes afterward. It was the first time I'd golfed with TheSpecialOne since our long weekend at the beginning of October.

As opportunities to golf have become spotty, I've been playing tennis with The Redhead. I should clarify, to say we "play' is an overstatement. I serve as a practice partner for her. Both she and TheSpecialOne are very good tennis players. I'm the kind of player that, having difficulty with my backhand, I will switch the racket over to my left hand and hit the ball back.

I've been playing golf with The Redhead here and there. We never keep score, which I'm sure is better for me. We also go out shooting now and then. I never shoot a picture. To say I'm going to do so quickly is measured the same way as the length of a minute...depending on which side of the bathroom door you are on. I suppose it's the novelty that makes it interesting for The Redhead. TheSpecialOne doesn't prefer to wait; there are other things she prefers having me do again and again.

This morning I went to a nine-hole course down the street. I like going there to practice. There was hardly anyone out; I was able to play two balls. It was surprising how many times when I hit the second ball it was not only about the same distance, but almost the same spot.

I'll be playing with The Redhead again tomorrow. Not sure about Wednesday yet; we'll be playing one game or another. They're calling for rain. Winter blows back in on Thursday.

To close, a few more shots from last night's sunset...

Have fun with all your special ones! You sound like you're having the exact same weather pattern as we are way up north!
Everyone was out putting Xmas lights up in the 13 degree Celsius temps! Then we went for an outdoor bike...and snow is to come in Thurs.!!!

It feels like spring in NYC, and the weather's getting no complaints from the likes of me. Just hope the weather can stay this course all the through April.
BTW, great pictures. Canon? Nikon?
Anyway ... great pics.

Sounds like you had a good holiday! Again, I have always loved the sunset. I keep looking for the 'green flash'.

That last shot is particularly beautiful and breath taking. We've been in shirt sleeve weather the last few days, but of course it won't last. Enjoy the golf while you can. Have you read Marion's account of ole man Winter's knock on her door on The Herbal Connection? She has some striking photos there, too.

Love the sunset shots. Sadly, the sunsets are coming wayy to early these days. It's dark out by the time I leave work.

At least global warming has been keeping November warm. Wooo! Go climate change!!!! Take THAT, glaciers!

Once again you've inspired me. My golf clubs have been sitting idle for nearly 20 years. Maybe it's time to clear the cobwebs and give it a shot again...so...we can be...on par!

It must have been amazing watching that sunset. As always your photos are spectacular. Aside from a new laptop a new camera with a huge lens is next on my list of must haves.

Hope all is well Nigg...Oh sorry I can't say that word anymore, LOL.

Take care my friend,
JB
