Good Morning, San Diego!

Photograph by Kilroy_60
I'm a curious sort. {Yes, I know that can be taken more than one way}

Something I find fun about blogging is how you're able to touch people around the globe. That makes a world map of visitors the most interesting Site Meter feature to me. It satisfies my curiosity about the locations from which people visit.

The number of people only attracts my attention because the first thing you see when logging in to Site Meter is a summary.

I'm well aware that while some visitors come purposefully others are misguided and some fall down a rabbit hole and land to find their virtual fate momentarily twisted.

All are welcome, of course, regardless of the route taken. What you'll find isn't something that can ever be predicted so keep the proviso in mind that's included in the header.

It's been almost 22 months since I installed Site Meter; this morning my counter rang up visit number 35,000. That visitor came from San Diego, California.

One proven way to attract visitors to your blog is by writing comments. I invite you to get in on the fun. Write a comment and include a link as an invitation to your little corner of the blogosphere.

A Shout-Out To Kiribati

There aren't a whole lot of individual visits here to The Gonzo Papers that catch my attention. This one, though, did. It is, to the best of my recollection, the first time I've had someone come from Kiribati.

The island nation is located Northeast of Australia. Not surprising, I suppose, that this particular visit would grab my attention.

What is most satisfying about this visit is that the post read was the recent tribute I wrote to Elizabeth "Beth" Claire Logler.

Another notable thing about this visit is that it came shortly before Site Meter rang up visit number 20,000!

I appreciate all my visitors and am happy to welcome new people as well as much much valued returning friends.

It appears that the 20,000th visit was a StumbleUpon member from Bangkok, Thailand. That visitor came to read one of the recent articles I wrote on Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. {A special thank you to the stumblers who showed interest in and support of this article.}

Having visitors come from around the globe is something that makes blogging fun. Especially when you have the good fortune to connect with visitors, whether they're other bloggers, stumblers or the author of a comment on a post.

If you're a stumbler, I invite you to visit my page and check out my great friends. If you're a web surfer whose not a StumbleUpon member I advise you definitely check it out; SU is a great web community.

Content Is King

It has long been said that the best way to attract visitors to a website is by providing quality content.

So, it struck me interesting that In Praise of the Female Form may be going offline. In about nine months the site attracted 50,000 visitors, but the blogger says, due to a lack of comments he may stop posting.

As I pointed out recently, including Paris Hilton in a post has attracted notable visits here. That's left me to wonder, what does it take to attract that sort of audience?

It's hard to believe that this is all it takes...

Indeed, quality is king. Or, would that be queen?

An Interesting Coincidence

My Site Meter counter rang up visit number 16,000 this morning.

According to the Summary portion of the traffic report, that works out to be an average of 22 visitors per day since 6 March, 2007.

I pay little attention to Site Meter in most cases, but notable visits pique my interest. That said, it was, I thought, an interesting coincidence that this post attracted both visit numbers 15,000 and 16,000.

Yes, exactly 1,000 visits apart, a post featuring Paris Hilton attracted a visit from Phoenix, Arizona then one from Wilmington, Delaware.

The same post, by the way, attracted visit number 12,000. That visit originated in the UK, showing Paris' worldwide appeal.

Putting that aside, I'd like to thank you for visiting.

Whether it was Paris, or another picture, that attracted you, if you clicked a link or followed a comment I wrote somewhere, even if you hit this page in StumbleUpon I'm pleased to have you here.

I'm always happy to welcome long time friends, new visitors who come on purpose and those who fall into the rabbit hole to land here.

Hopefully you'll stay and surf a bit. I'm sure you'll find something you like if you have an open mind and a good sense of humor. I'd welcome your comment to let me know what you think.

I'll look forward to connecting with you again down the road, wherever in the world you come from...
