Broken Links - Have The Spine To Speak Up

I have a sidebar category for Blogosphere Link Exchanges.

Some of the sites listed there are done by bloggers I've come to think of as friends. Some of the sites are there only because they carry my link.

There has never been consideration on my part of automatically linking to someone only because they link to me.

I believe there should be mutual interest and a shared desire to work together to make linking truly meaningful.

Frankly there are link categories The Gonzo Papers is listed in at some sites that I'm not especially happy with, but everyone manages their sites and creates link lists in the way they feel is Right; so you either live with it or you don't have the link.

I purposefully don't alphabetize my links, for example, and I, at times, shuffle the order. There are some people, I suspect, who don't like how that works out. Selah.

What I find really pisses me off is when I visit a site with whom I have a link exchange only to find they have dropped my link, without saying a word to me. That, I think, is chickenshit.

It bothers me, I suppose, since I make a point of letting someone know when I'm dropping their link. I believe that courtesy is the least someone deserves. Of course this is a day and age when courtesy is all too frequently lacking.

About The Email Or Link I Owe You... And A Shout-Out To...

Photograph by Kilroy_60
I have 361 messages sitting in my Inbox. If I owe you an email the answer could be here. Better yet, a Shout-Out to...

---(-)-> Roy, Thanks for the great article on the first progressive dinner carnival at For Your Success!

---(-)-> Thanks to everyone helping promote the second progressive dinner carnival...
---(-)-> I appreciate the help I'm getting to promote my Blogospherian Picnic...
---(-)-> Sophia, Do you think you'll ever pick up posting at Unorthodox Musings again? I do hope so, what you offered there definitely, I think, deserves an audience.

---(-)-> GB, I added your link to tidings of comfort and joy.

Do I Owe You An Email Or A Link?

I have 423 messages sitting in my Inbox. If I owe you an email the answer could be here...

---(-)-> Mail has been flowing in and out related to the blogosphere's only progressive dinner carnival, Soup To Nuts...

I'd like to thank all the blogospherians {a Kilroy_60 original} who have published posts to promote the carnival...
---(-)-> Aza, GREAT to have you posting again at Surreptitious Psychosis!

Thanks for your comment at The Good, The Bad and The Ugly...which also serves as a reminder I need to update.

---(-)-> Leanderthal, I've got your link plugged in the sidebar to A Voice Crying In The Wilderness. I'm looking for your submission(s) to the progressive dinner.

---(-)-> I have your link to Boating In Beautiful British Columbia plugged in here, Heather. We're going to more or less redo A Photographer's Eye soon...will be sure to plug in your link.

---(-)-> Matt, Your link, to MySavePC.net, is also plugged in here. I'll be updating The Good, The Bad and The Ugly soon. I got one more submission through blogcarnival.com; should I look for the other three or are you finished?

---(-)-> Soham, We're good to go... The second progressive dinner will run on Wednesday, 30 April; we'll take submissions from 30 January through 26 April. You'll host the hors d'oeuvres & cocktails course at The Soul And The Witness.

---(-)-> I never submit to blogcarnival.com listings unless there's a date listed for the next edition of a carnival.

There was a period - between the posting of the Villagers go...GONZO! Carnival and the announcement of the Gonzo Gratitude! Carnival {What are you thankful for?} - when I received a few entries for what amounts of a gonzo carnival that doesn't exist.

It seems the perfect time to remedy the situation....

Welcome to The Gonzo Carnival of Unexpected Opportunity...
  • Tamsyn points to helicopter parents as a root cause of some current problems. {Damn them!}
  • The Sporadical offers a most interesting take on political coverage.
  • How long was it before your New Year Resolutions crashed and burned? Joshua Seth tells you why.
  • The male voice, Glowing Face Man says, equates to power in gender relations.
  • Mitch McDonald offers practical advice, how to save money on toner.
For an impromptu gathering, I think this carnival came together rather well. Do let those who contributed posts know you found them here. Given their self initiatave, they deserve the support.

---(-)-> Dr. DeJesus, I received your entries both for the progressive dinner and my first Gonzo Blog Carnival of 2008 Gonzo GRATITUDE! {What are you thankful for?}. Thanks for adding Physician Entrepreneur...

---(-)-> Sank, I'm not sure how it happened, but I missed a link at your site to The Gonzo Papers. I've added a link to Old And In The Way.

---(-)-> WriterWoman, I've posted a link to The Shores Of My Dreams. I hadn't been aware of that link until I surfed Technorati.

---(-)-> Lin, I got your link to Telling It Like It Is plugged in. I've been plugging away on messages, trying to handle current ones expediently while working through the backlog. I'm at 372 in my Inbox, eh.

---(-)-> Nicole, great to have you joining in the second progressive dinner carnival. You'll be hosting the appetizer course at Musings Of A Manic Mom.

---(-)-> Warren, I look forward to reading your follow-up to the post I commented on, 22 Benefits Of Owning A Business (And Why You Should Do It). If you think of it drop a line my way when you publish it.

---(-)-> An excerpt from email I wrote to Tony Iovino at A Red Mind In A Blue State:

It's people like us, I think, on which the country must depend to fix what ills us.

My position is not that W. stole the election from Gore, when he was out voted, but simply that the system fucked up. As for Kerry, he was a bumbling fool and the country was in a stupor from the massacre in the desert. But, fuck all that.

What we need, you and me and all the others, is to MAKE AMERICA PURPLE.

I laughed when I saw you have a section of links to blogospherians {a Kilroy_60 original} that have political views with which you do not agree - saying, "visit at your own risk". At least I believe it was your proviso; It may have been the fat, tight joint of BC bud, spiced with opium, rolled by my undocumented Costa Rican maid's lesbian lover. But fuck all that all too.

If you read my post, referenced above, you'll see that your willingness to provide those links, even with a user's warning, knowing how well that's worked for cigarettes, is a step toward becoming purple. I do the same, linking to those I wish, regardless of whether or not I think the person's political view comes from a lack of oxygen due to having their head up their ass for the past 8+ years.

What do you say we open a dialogue, take a step to show the politicos that cooperation can be found and mutual benefit be had if two decide that is what they want to do? I propose a link exchange. What do you say?

---(-)-> Isabella, I'm sorry promotion for the writing projects you're working on won't fit in the progressive dinner. There are a myriad of projects the hosts, including me, are working on and it would clutter things.

I'm happy to point people to your promotion of the Social Media Megaproject including posts on LinkedIn and Twitter.

---(-)-> Hueina, Thanks for doing my first interview as a Blog Village, Featured Member. I appreciate the chance to talk about your site, Intensive Care For The Nurturer's Soul

---(-)-> Dana, What a pleasure it will be to have you host a carnival with me again. To confirm for the second progressive dinner blog carnival, you'll be hosting the main course at Simple Pleasures.

13 Old Links Deleted - 7 New Link Exchange Sites Added - Write If I Owe You A Link

{Enhanced} Photograph by Kilroy_60

I've taken some time over the holiday weekend for blog updating. Along with that comes email cleanup.

The Link Exchange list in the sidebar has been shuffled; something I do periodically. 13 links were deleted. 7 new sites were added.

After a few hours of purging my Inbox I still have 298 messages. Unfortunately, I don't have anymore time to follow-up and archive. I'll be working on this to get things squared away ASAP.

If you have posted a link to The Gonzo Papers or The Good, The Bad and The Ugly that I haven't returned please let me know. I'll get right back to you...

The first December Gonzo Blog Carnival has been announced. See the following post. Look for another announcement this week.

If you're interested in hosting a carnival, there's an email link in my profile.

Cheers!

-------(-)-> Friends of Kilroy <-(-)------- A Special Edition Gonzo "Link Exchange" Carnival

I got to wondering whether you would like to wander with me and visit some of my blogging friends.

I'm sure it will be an interesting trip.

Whether it's the wit and wisdom of an old lady, a pussy with attitude {that's a very bad cat!} or an American in Amsterdam...there's something for you to enjoy. Even if your interest leans toward an emphasis on video blogging.

Yes, I've been fortunate to do link exchange with a wide variety of bloggers.

You'll find one who doesn't look before crossing the street and one who keeps an eye on the bottom line. There's a blogger who chases a dream and another who, whenever possible, fulfills a dream. It's great, to me, having someone who exults in the memories of a bygone time

I never wrote a post like this before and it wasn't long before I was feeling stoopid. But, there's always something to learn...so it was just a matter of getting words that flow so my thoughts could spill out.

Yes, life is full of surprises, and yes, sometimes you just want to scream WTF is it now?!? It's like you've got two write hands, and two left feet.

Cue music: Color My World

Finding serenity in life is, I think, what it's all about. That may be along the road or on the water.

One thing that makes this easier sometimes is a good rant. Another is a photograph that may touch your soul. Of course, you can't beat a good laugh or a heartfelt note!

While seeing the big picture is important it's critical to focus on a day in the life {whichever life that may be}, whether it's viewed from the kitchen sink, atop a lighthouse, in a garden, through a lens or lounging on a beach.

It's what we all want, isn't it...laughter, loving and living. Sometimes it's a matter of whether you're willing to pay the price of convenience.

It could just be a matter of perspective; and there's a lot of diversity in that vein. From an aspiring writer, to an educator, to a workaholic. Adding a bit of uncommon sense can't hurt, especially when you're blogging from the war zone or even from on campus!

Well, it's about time to close. First, though, how about some entertainment?

Here are the directions to the cowboy show... Make a left turn after you pass the house with bullet holes in the mail box and look for Hooters {?!?} Take the next left and you'll see the circus. Just be careful not to hit the old guy ranting on the side of the road!

Doktor, Doctor, give me some (blog) news... NEWS BREAK...This just in from England...Now, back to our regular programming...Or is it irregular programming?

I hope you've enjoyed yourself. I'm off to the lounge...where life is infinitely crazy! Bad Craziness in the naked city!!

What was disappointing in writing this post was finding link exchanges who had bailed without notice and "dead" blogs I'm going to have to drop. blah blah blah blah blah blah

Check out the updated, shuffled, link exchange list next week.

Catch A Ride With The Hitchhiker's Guide... Edition 9

It's easy to find blogs with interesting names. And satisfying to bring attention to interesting blogs, be they new or well established. That is, interesting to me, for whatever reason, in both cases.

The key to gaining a spot in A Hitchhiker's Guide To The Blogosphere is being able to capture my attention and hold my interest. These blogs achieved just that...

---(-)-> Insanity Briefs
---(-)-> A Yank In OZ
---(-)-> Single In Arizona
---(-)-> Stranger In An Even Stranger Land
---(-)-> Realigned Life
---(-)-> Down The Rabbit Hole
---(-)-> Semiresponsive
---(-)-> Realm Of The Lone Grey Squirrel
---(-)->

And these blogs have interesting names, but didn't make the cut for a link...

---(-)-> Moon Echoes
---(-)-> The Bare Necessities
---(-)-> An Ordinary Person And Politics In America
---(-)-> Through My Lens
---(-)-> Law & Disorder
---(-)-> Land Of Confusion
---(-)-> Perceptual Thoughts
---(-)-> The Dark Side Of The Moon
---(-)-> My Morning Candy
---(-)-> Sign On The Dotted Line, Please
---(-)-> Overhyped And Underblogged
---(-)-> Flight Of The Catfish
---(-)-> Stray Voltage
---(-)-> Rollercoaster's Bunker
---(-)-> Queen Of Her Own Universe
---(-)-> Sprightliness Modality
---(-)-> Adultism: A Well Kept Secret
---(-)-> Coffee Shop Blogger
---(-)->

It may have to be Friday or Saturday before I can do any more work on this. It will likely be a week or two before this edition wraps up.

They Captured My Attention AND Held My Interest

Tomorrow is the Friends of Kilroy blog carnival. To mark this special event in the Gonzo Blog Carnival Series I'm publishing a new edition of my Hitchhiker's Guide To The Blogosphere.

Publishing this list for a little more than a year I've met some great people. I've found a lot of different things people do in their blogs; some which I've borrowed. It's been my pleasure to help some people get their new blog off the ground. I've been able to help bring additional readers to some excellent blogs that were under appreciated.

Another thing that has come from the Hitchhiker's Guide is links. I don't require a link back for inclusion in this list. I choose what blogs go in the list because I choose them; no strings attached.

I'm releasing this edition at this time because it's links that have come from this endeavor that I expect will make up the majority of those posting in the carnival.

It's my pleasure to present this list of blogs that succeeded in capturing my attention and maintaining my interest. That is what this list is about!

---(-)-> The Old New Englander
---(-)-> A Thousand Words... One Frame At A Time
---(-)-> Simple Writings From A Complicated Person
---(-)-> Dreams Of The Snoring Man

The People Behind The Links...

From an email I wrote to one of my blog buddies...
You know what a mainstream, rigid, stick-to-it conformist that I am. What else can I say?

The latest, greatest edition of A Hitchhiker's Guide To The Blogosphere is on the books! If I must say, it's a damn good collection.

I've become acquainted with several bloggers with whom I've done link exchanges. It's been a long time since I created one of my questions lists. I don't think that qualifies as a meme; there's no theme and one question does not relate to the next in any way.

When my original blogspot crashed and burned in the Inescapable Blogger Archive Hell a ton of comments were lost in the void. I've had every intention of retrieving those comments and plugging them into this blog. Just as I picked up all the posts and republished them at the same date and time. Making the time to snare the comments has not bee possible. Someday perhaps.

In any case, I think resurrecting my two questionnaires and bringing back What Are Your ABC's will help get to know my new blog buddies better. So, let's explore with...

Exercise Your Brain and Get In The Game {Original publication date, 14 July, 2006}

-----(-)-> Naomi, Diary from England; LJP, ...Save.Save.Save...; Sugar Smacks, The Surprise In My Cereal Box; Tea And Margaritas In My Garden; Super Cookie, The Gadget Blog...C'mon and play along; don't be shy.

Questions and Answers - The Gonzo Papers {Original publication date, 18 August, 2006}

-----(-)-> Five from the latest, greatest edition of A Hitchhiker's Guide...: Whatever Blows Up My Skirt...; PARLANCHEQ; Robin Ann Walker, Artist's Impression; Luna's Celtic Realm; Dr. Blogstein from Dr. Blogstein's Radio Happy Hour Blog...I have the questions, what are your answers?

And, finally, my first meme! ABC, Easy as 1-2-3 (Original publication date, 12 June, 2006}

-----(-)-> Sheila, Alabama Kitchen Sink; Dirty Butter, YESTERDAY'S MEMORIES of a Bygone Era; LJP, ...Save.Save.Save...; Lisa, The Traveling Diva; Heather, Beautiful British Columbia... What are YOUR ABC's?

I wouldn't call these tags; requests for information would be more accurate. It will be interesting to see how things play out.

Thanks for visiting, YOU are invited to respond to any of the three sets of questions. Are you going to play? Since this is a Learning about you post, maybe you'd prefer to check out the new EDUCATION meme...

A Hitchhiker's Guide To The Blogosphere - The Latest And Greatest

It seems like an awfully long time since I've done one of my A Hitchhiker's Guide To The Blogosphere posts.

This is one of the things I've really enjoyed over the past year or so. I've met some great bloggers, helped get some new blogs rolling and developed some quality associations.

I'm starting this on April 30th. I'll have to work on this a little each day; in a week or two it will be done. It will be the latest and greatest edition...you'll have some great new blogs to check out.

As I have in the past I will be recommending blogs I like for one reason or another. They get linked. And, as in the past, they are all considered equal; I don't "rank". There will also be blogs that have names interesting enough to be listed, but not linked.

I'm working on setting up the next Gonzo Blog Carnival(s) as well. Not sure whether that will be one, another double feature or in the latest and greatest spirit a trifecta! If you are interested in hosting, or know someone who can pick up the ball and run with it, write a comment on this post. Or send an email; there's a link in my profile.

It's definitely worth catching a ride with...

-----(-)-> Rainy Day Wonderings
-----(-)-> T Jantunen.com - Something About Everything
-----(-)-> Observing Hermann...
-----(-)-> Dr. Blogstein
-----(-)-> Ramblings of an Undisturbed Mind

Chaotic Madness! Unabashed Mayhem!! Extreme Excess!!!

Have you ever gone looking for something...found this, that and the other...until finally you were left to wonder what had started this ill-advised endeavor in the first place? No, I'm not talking about Iraq!

I started out thinking I was going to do nothing more than open a drawer. The next thing I knew I was exploring. Then I began investigating. This led me to sorting, organizing and purging. I now have an office that looks like a staging area.

I still needed to find it. Back to The Writer's Nook. I checked the file drawer; Sorted through the stack of papers on the desk; Went over everything on the bookshelf; Looked on the table. No luck. Well, that wouldn't be entirely true. I found some interesting things, but not what I was looking for.

I keep too much stuff. If you have been reading this blog for any period of time this will not come as news to you. The problem seems to be that however long I keep anything, when it finally reaches the point that I am convinced it will serve no useful purpose and I throw it out...almost immediately a need arises for which that item would serve perfectly.

So, now I think...the information I was looking for must have been in a website I was looking at. I know it's not been that long since I saw it. I would say put my hands on it, but at this point I'm not sure what the it was that started the search. So, now I start going through my bookmarks.
