Pittsburgh: A Drinking Town With A Football Problem

"Fate loves the fearless." - James Russell Lowell

For as long as I can remember, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been part of my life. I've been with them through the lowest lows and the highest highs.

For the past two years, this is the wallpaper I've had on my computer:

If you do much traveling, all you have to do is put on Steelersgear. You quickly find there are fans of the black and gold from coast-to-coast.

In September, the Steelers were named America's favorite NFL team. 16% of adults voting in an online poll conducted by Harris tabbed the Pittsburghers. The Dallas Cowboys - self proclaimed as America's tream - scored 15%. The Colts got 13% of the vote, the Packers 11% and the Patriots and Bears each received 9%. This was the first time the Steelers finished first since Harris began conducting the poll in 1998.

Admittedly, February seems like it was a lifetime ago...

I unashamedly crowed about the Steelers being five-time Super Bowl Champions at the start of the football season. Regardless of how things go from week to week, my pride does not wane. It's been a tough season so far. It was hard to see the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's story this past week, From Champs To Chumps.

Sunday, the hometowners beat the New Orleans Saints 38-31 bringing the season record to 3-6. This weekend one of the game's greatest rivalries is renewed when Pittsburgh meets Cleveland. I haven't given up on the possibility that when the playoffs roll around, Mr. Rooney's team will be there. Whether that's the way it works out or not, one thing won't change. I love the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Steelers fans only have one thing to say...

I personaly have never understood the draw to watching sports. I must be missing that part of my mainly hetro man gene or something. I am all for alcohol and mindless grunting but watching grown men play kill the man with the ball.....nope does nothing for me. But in the same breath I am all for it if it is something that makes you happy.
I love watching men beating the crap out of each other like ancient roman gladiators (ufc) and I am sure most ppl dont understand it. But it makes me happy just the same. One mans pleasure is another mans torture.....GO STEELERS!

Any true fan of the game has a great respect for the steelers...you and i have discussed this a while back...
Question- why is the logo only on one side of the helmet?
And where the hell is Jack Lambert these days, the scariest looking football player there ever could be?

Don't know anything about this kinda football (nor about soccer - what we on this side of the pond call "football"- for that matter)

I know it makes a lotta people happy, and that's what counts.

Just wanted to let you know - words aren't carved in stone, and I changed the link to Gonzo Papers (as opposed to what you found in the Blogosphere). It was meant to be this one in the first place! :-) I'm leaving your description as 'explorer' though, as I got the idea from your profile originally.... and I kind of like the idea that, every now and then, you get the irresistable urge to wander round (by clicks... isn't there a measurement in 'clicks'?) and see what 's going on!
