This is, without question, one of my favorite sites on the web. Also, I think, one of the most important.
Spirituality, to me, is at the heart of all things that are good. I have nothing against religion. That said, I believe, much as anything religious fanaticism tears at the very fabric of society and brings forth the worst ills of man.

This is, I believe, a topic that should be given high priority. Especially with consideration of the Presidential campaign currently underway in the United States.

The undo influence of the zealots on the religious right, leading up to and throughout the reign of President George W. Bush, has been extremely harmful. That is something that can not be ignored. Due diligence by the rest of the population is necessary to stop any further damage from occurring.

I was raised as a Catholic back in Brazil, going to church in a regular basis. I am growing older and quite frankly seek and tired of "good holier than thou" church goers, their dogmas, their biased notion of goodness, their distorted vision of what is right and wrong, their prejudice disguised in a mask of false tolerance and charity. How come these people to pretend to be good Christians, when they want to impose their concept of right in others as soon as they found out that they have a different faith or a different approach to Faith. That is being as fundamentalist as any radical Muslim, I don't see the difference at all.
If the race is Human, and we all have the same basic rights, obligations and choices, why not to live and let live? Power??? Certainly is, and oppression, a way to control (reminds me or George Orwell on his book). I am afraid that I am so pissed of at religious rights that I can easily become prejudiced against anyone trying to convince me of the opposite
Spirituality in the other hand (at least to me) is what open my mind and soul to the divine around me, in other people, Nature and the light guiding me whenever is dark.
I believe this country was formed with God in mind. As long as there are small minds we shall not live in harmony, no matter the belief.
I'm not a religious person and I don't believe there's a God, per se. I do believe that everything happens for a reason, though, and that our lives are already pre-ordained.
I always find it kind of ironic that (usually) the worst "offenders" of non-tolerance is the Catholic church - homophobic, anti-abortionist and immoral are just three terms that spring to mind.
Any organization that tells me "you must / you will" do something immediately raises my suspicions.
